INFO: FOCUS Alumni Mission Trip: Mexico City


WHAT THIS TRIP INCLUDES

On this trip, you will serve alongside members of Hope of the Poor to minister to various marginalized groups
throughout Mexico City & take a pilgrimage to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe!

Daily Mass 

We will prioritize having Mass each day of the mission trip

Daily Holy Hour 

We will have at least one hour of prayer each of the trip to help encounter the Lord in a deeper or new way

Daily service with Hope of the Poor 

Joining into the work Hope of the Poor is already doing, we will get to meet many people living in poverty throughout Mexico City

FOCUS Missions Formation Talks 

Missionaries will present formation talks on various topics relevant to our trip and our daily lives as young adults Catholics

FOCUS Missions t-shirt, string bag, Magnificat book 

FOCUS swag for you to be reminded of the work we did & share with others when we return to America

    •Priority applications are DUE on May 15, 2024
    • Applications after May 15th are accepted if space is available
3.Chrisy Verdi will set up an interview to talk about the trip and answer any questions
4. Once accepted, upload forms and a $250 deposit to secure your spot!

$1,900 inclusive of:
    •Flight from Departure City (Houston) to Mexico
    •On the ground transportation throughout Mexico City
    •Food on the ground
    •Lodging
    •Chaplains’ costs (FOCUS alumni approved chaplain)
    •Administrative coordinating fees
    •FOCUS travel insurance for duration of the trip  
    •Security consulting to monitor safety on the ground
    •Training for our trip directors in Risk Mitigation and Risk Management
    •Department overhead for FOCUS Missions to organize this

**as with any FOCUS Missions trip, the cost may increase or decrease. We are hoping the price will only decrease as we were very conservative in our budget estimates

**Price is NOT inclusive of:
    •Flight to the departure City (Houston, TX)
    •Flight home from Mexico City at the end of the trip
    •Souvenirs
    •Any additional travel in Mexico after the trip concludes

• Individuals will book their flights into the departure city (Houston, TX) and home from Mexico City- exact time frames will be sent out closer to the trip


When to book flights? Start looking around early/mid-summer. Have flights purchased 2 months prior to trip by July 18th at the latest

 Can we fly together? We will provide a travel document to help coordinate travel if anyone is departing from the same location or wants to fly back from Mexico City together

You may choose to stay longer in Mexico if you’d like. Once the trip formally wraps up FOCUS will no longer be liable for any expenses or incidents that occur

Wednesday, Sep 18 – Group gathers in Departure City (Houston) for orientation
Thursday, Sep 19- Sunday, Sep 22 – Group flight to Mexico City and serve with Hope of the Poor ministry
Monday, Sep 23 – group departs Mexico City and returns home

FOCUS Missions monitors the safety of all mission and pilgrimage locations through our contracted security consultant, including safety in Mexico. Other precautions include consulting government agencies such as the U.S. State Department, the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program, and the Center for Disease Control regarding traveler health. FOCUS Missions also has several resources dedicated to promoting safety and mitigating risk, including training every Mission Director in safety and risk management at our Mission Director Leadership Summit, arranging insurance policies for each trip, and equipping our staff and participants with safety guideline for the duration of the trip.
• There are currently no COVID Vaccination requirements or testing requirements to enter Mexico. If this changes, we will send an update to every participant.
• For your personal health while traveling, please refer to the Center for Disease Control Website (https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/mexico?s_cid=ncezid-dgmq- travel-single-001#travel-notices) and your healthcare provider for professional recommendations about your healthcare for this trip. Above is a link to general guidelines, but keep in mind that FOCUS Missions is not an authority on this subject. Please check the CDC website for up-to-date information.

Yes! All payments or donations will be made through the fundraising link you will have from the Missions website
• You will also have a missionary from the trip assigned to you for fundraise coaching to help with the fundraising process.
• We encourage you to consider fundraising. This could be an amazing opportunity to engage with your former Mission Partners or even just friends and family!

There are 2 payment deadlines
•First payment of $1000 due June 31, 2024
•Final payment deadline due August 1, 2024

ASAP! Please make sure your passport is valid for 6 months past of our time in Mexico (does not expire before March 19, 2025) • Expedite it to make sure it’s here on time
